hey everyone,
its been so long since i posted and thats really because everything has been going perfectly for a year got some gorgeous plant life in my aquarium got some cockatoo cichlids breeding and my aquarium has been the best hobby i have had.
Tonight may just have been the worst night i have ever had as far as fishkeeping goes, i have been working on a university project and finished at 1.30 tonight and got to sleep at 2.00 AM i hear gargling and i thought it was someone being sick then dripping so i get up to look at my aquarium and my first thought is my filter is leaking so i turn it off but no much worse when i get the lights on water is gushing out spurting upwards from the bottom seal, i get everyone in the house up to help we managed to get as much water out as we could and after the most dificult catch i get 2 loaches out but i couldnt see the other loach anywhere so i only assume it has been vacumed up by someone siphoning water out, so i get all my fish in my bucket and get a heater and emergency filter in i put all my filter media in a basin and set an air pump running with it and as i o upstairs i hear something dripping from my driftwood i look in and my other loach is sitting in there god only knows how it was alive because it must have been out of the water for an hour but i grab a pint pot fill it with water and put it in and it starts swimming around so as of yet no deaths, in a few hours me and my sister are going to set up a big plastic storage container for the fish while i locate them a new aquarium, the filter media is fed with amonia and fingers crossed i dont have too many deaths but they are all traumatised.
i know theres probably no help anyone can give me but i thought i would share my terribke experience with you all,
when it gets light outside i will post a picture of the huge crack which is where the water was spurting from, i have no idea how it even started.
anyway i will try and get an hour of sleep before i start work on keeping them alive in daylight hours.
