Marine starter tank #1
Hi everyone
I want to start a marine set up, nothing to big- 2/3ft would be ideal.
Can anyone point my in the direction of a full set up? Ie everything included?
Not had any fish experience so will need some help
Thanks a lot.

Re: Marine starter tank #2
Going straight for marines is a real big jump into the deep end. It will cost a fair bit as you need good equipment.

I only keep freshwater but here is as much as I know:

You will need the following:
Tank with lights, filter, skimmer, heater,
live rock,
marine salt and a refractometer to measure salinity (or a hydrometer),
a marine test kit.

You could try a plug and play kit - I think there are brands such as orca nano and also red sea max. I don't know if they'll have everything though as I've never looked into it.

Re: Marine starter tank #3
Thanks for the reply, I know marine are totally different, and that's not a problem, just want a good set up that works well, everyones got to start somewhere hey?
I'm going to do this and I want to do it right, I've done a load of research, but I'm not sure what gear is good or not.
I don't want anything too fancy, 2/3ft tank with a bit of live rock, couple nice corals, 2/3 clown fish, and some cleaners.

Im not that well up on marines but i would think a 3 ft 180L would need to be the minimum if only to save you trouble with fast fluctuating water parameters (the more water there is the longer it takes to swing changes ) I am sure there are others here that know far better than me but this is what i would be looking at if i started a marine

You might want to consider something like the Red Sea C Series or S Series range then - they tend to come with everything you could possibly want.

You seen the prices of those tanks? Bloody hell, I'm alright for money but that's hellish.
I think I'll probably get a second had set up some where lol.

Re: Marine starter tank #8
I'm also new to marine and have just purchases a new setup (like you i'm jumping in at the deep end).

I went for a Fluval Roma 200.

I didn't get it from seapets, i got it from my local shop. They also modified it and built me a sump system for it.

The tank is a more reasonable price, but don't forget everything that goes with a marine setup.
For example, on top of the £500 for tank/sump i've just ordered £210 of live rock & sand. Then another £100 for a skimmer. Then another £100-ish (if not more) for testing kits, refractometer, powerheads, and other accessories.

That's all before i've even looked at a fish!
It soon mounts up so choose wisely :)
