If you mean the foot spa treatment thingy, it's Garra rufa , a.k.a. Doctor Fish, usually

Amazed this grim fad hasn't fully died out yet, was horrified to find a fish foot spa in a large local aquatics shop!! Haven't been in there since... Disgusting practice...

Is it that only this specie will pick dead skin on your foot?

I went to a cold water fail in a higher region in Vietnam and found that many of the fish there were picking stuff off my feet when I put my feet in water. They're all wild fish and they didn't look like the Doctor fish I normally see.

I can't name any without looking, but yes there will be more species of fish than just one that will be bold enough to approach humans as well as other animals and graze on any particles available.. In the wild this is ok as the fish have a choice, and access to other food than just foot scum.

Thanks for replies people

First I thought that it's nice since they have to keep the fish in a right condition so they can be active and effective. But now I realize that they also have to leave the fish hungry for them to do that :) A little cruel...
