Snails and fertiliser copper #1
Hi,

I'd like to add a Zebra nerite or 2 to my 125(ish)L tropical tank.

But...

It's planted and I use ferropol most but not every week.

Ferropol contains copper (0.009% on the label).

This seems like a tiny amount but is it enough to harm a snail?

Thanks,

Pete

It shouldn't be a problem if properly dosed the plants should use it up rather than it linger in the water, to be cautious you could always buy a copper trst kit and check to see how much there is in the water before and after dosing for a couple of days before you buy any snails.

Thanks. That's a good plan.

I under dose a little with the ferropol anyway.

If I was testing for copper then what would be your max copper ppm before adding a snail?

Re: Snails and fertiliser copper #4
It honestly shouldn't be a problem.. Its only free copper that can cause a problem, the type in your fertiliser should be chelated, but for general info, I just checked exact measurements for free copper...

Dangerous level of copper :
-shrimps is 0.03 mg per
-algae and bacteria is 0.08 mg per litre.
-some fish, snails and plants is 0.10 mg per litre.
