Re: Please help , what's wrong with my fish? #31
Can I just check that your test is showing 10ppm nitrIte? If so you need a series of 75% water changes to get that below 0.5 a.s.a.p.

eSHa won't affect the cycle, but remember to compensate for water changes by adding enough extra medication to replace what you remove in a water change.

Re: Please help , what's wrong with my fish? #32
Omg I did it again so so sorry wrong way round , please excuse my silly,
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
Thank you for reply , I been doing 25% water change every two days to keep levels stable and keep testing, I am glad esha doesn't affect cycle .
Is there anything else I can do to help her? The abcess needs to burst but its not yet , poor thing, she doesn't seem affected much by it, still doing her fishy thing but it must be sore ?
Many thanks

There's not much more you can do really. Keep the water nice and clean, keep her well nourished, and when the abscess finally bursts run another course of eSHa 2000 to help heal the wound it leaves. FX for her

Re: Please help , what's wrong with my fish? #35
Sorry need advice again, I think I gone through the nitrogen cycle not sure if I at third stage as the ammonia is 0 , the nitrites is 0 , that's a constant now but my nitrates have all of a sudden shot up from 10 to above 80!
I done water changes, cleaned the gravel thoroughly, got live plants.
I checked my tap water and that's fine ,its not changed at all.
Is this because I am at the third stage or is it something I doing wrong?
What else can I do to bring these levels back down again ?
Many thanks to you

The only thing that will reduce nitrates is changing the water. Make sure before you put the fresh water in you De chlorinate it other wise the Chlorine will kill the good bacteria thats living in your filter and tank.

Thank you, I carry on with the water changes etc , I defo use water conditioner.
I just reading through all your advice leaflets on here ,great help , so glad I found this site, its a godsend to people like me.
Sorry for dumb question but could they have shot up like that due to being at the end of the cycle then? Am I reading about the cycle correctly ?
Many kind thanks to you

Hi

Yes. it's because the cycle is finished. Because it takes longer for the nitrite eating bacteria to show up than the ones that eat ammonia, there's a large build up of nitrite for them to deal with when they finally arrive. Once they deal with it all, nitrAtes shoot up. Change enough of the water as you need to in order to get nitrates below 20ppm
