Re: What is a varied fish diet?

Hi
Well they can survive on just commercial foods, but they do better with some variety. Fancy goldfish in particular tend also to do better on sinking foods rather than flake as eating from the surface can cause them to have buoyancy issues due to swallowing air. Dry foods in general are best soaked for a few minutes in a bit of tank water to prevent that.
Other additions to their diet include live or frozen bloodworm, daphnia and brineshrimp (though not too often) and veggies such as thawed frozen peas squeezed out of their skins and squished, blanched broccoli, courgette, cucumber, romaine lettuce held in a vegetable clip, and cheap live plants like Elodea which can be easily replaced.
