Does anyone know what this is? #1
Hi all i paid ?20 in my LFS shop for this fish, it caught my eye.

He/she is currently in my quranteen tank for a week of so before i add him in to my 5foot tank

It looks like either Synodontis petricola or Synodontis lucippinis, but I'd need a clearer pic to be sure. Both are hard water catfish from Lake Tanganyika and do better in groups of four or more. It's also possible it's a hybrid Syno as there are quite a lot about.

What sort of fish can i keep with this in hard water?

That's weird - pic had wrongly formatted image tags so I went into "Mod mode" and corrected them and pic appeared.

It was still there when I last looked - don't know where it's gone now

Most of the typical livebearers (Platies, Guppies, Mollies, Swordtails), Rainbowfish, or if pH is really high too (over 8) Tanganyikan cichlids; all depending on tank-size and other occupants at present. He will need some pals of his own kind though.

Yep....you need to replace IMG with lower case img and then it will work:

i'd agree with fishlady on ID except that it is incredibly likely to be a hybrid or a crossback hybrid of some sort (hybrid bred back to one of the parent species)

i know it's tank was labelled as on of these names you said above - Synodontis petricola or Synodontis lucippinis.
