No, not really

Pics would have helped. Hard to ID a fish in these circumstances, without a pic of some kind

I know sorry, just that my fish is black and I can't see it because the previous owners had black lining

Also, I don't want to stress the fish everytime I put the net in the water ... if you understand ....

Could it be a baby Barble? They have a similar look. They don't have red fins though.

Barble tend to have brown fins long slender bodys and are just pure muscle. The fish that you had in your pond is called a Roach in pictures they are silver at the side put it in the water and look from a birds eye veiw the top of
the fish is deep olive green/black with red/orange fins.

They don't look anything like red tailed sharks though wheras a barble if you squint a bit.... :) Still it's unlikley a barble would end up in a garden pond.

Can you describe it's body shape? Did it have barbels? How many of them are there in the pond? What are yoiu feeding it?

Can you not take a pic on a mobile phone? I'm intrigued.

Barble can live in ponds and lakes. And I think you find that roach in the water. Plus roach are the one of the most common fish in british waters and can be brought into ponds by egg's on ducks legs.

Do you think it could possibly be a gibel carp? I had a friend who moved into a house where there was a large pond and the fish had just been left to their own devices for years there were goldfish in there at first but gradually the offspring became blacker and blacker through natural selection... then maybe one of these black fish mated with a red fish and got partially red body??? I know it's a bit far fetched but hey.

Hi all, no need to panic!

Got the fish out finally to find out it was a green tench.

Thanks for all the replies though!
