Have a look at the caresheet for the reasons it's not considered a beginner's fish.....that doesn't mean that as a beginner you can't successfully keep them, just that they have to be understood, and fall outside the normal expectations for a first tank

The more usual starting point for beginners is a mixed community, for instance....definitely a no for these. Usually beginners have smaller tanks, so the limited number that can be kept makes them less suitable too.
