I always thought it was partial water change, though I might be wrong. There are too many abbreviations, especially concerning marines!

You're right. PWC is "partial water change".

Total Dissolved Solids - things like calcium, various metals, nitrate and other such stuff in the water. Some of these make up the general hardness of the water, some are just trace elements and minerals, carbonates make up the alkalinity, and most affect the conductivity. All these can affect fish health and willingness to breed
