TL550 #1
I have had my TL550 tank for a year now and have noticed that when the lights come on there is a noise coming from the hood is this a sign of one fan needing to be replaced, if anyone has come across this would be grateful for advice.

I've heard that this is quite common, either seek like for like replacements or even upgrade with pc fans which some reefers do because they you can get quieter than stock ones. Be even better if you could just have a look in the hood before you buy anything tho just incase you can't sort it yourself.

Re: TL550 #4
I have a 4 year old Tl550 That has started with the same problem. It stops after 5 minutes so I haven't bothered looking into it yet and I'm not having problems with temp (probably because it's cold in my house at the moment) but I've heard from others with the same problem and with the TL550 you just replace them. Upgrades for PC fans tend to be more common for the TL450 as stronger fans are required to prevent the tank from overheating in summer.

Hi all. I'm just setting up a Boyu 550. It's 3 weeks old with live rock and using all the latest help from the forum.
My fans make a depressing noise when switched on, but settle down to an acceptable hum after a couple of minutes. (The tank is not new) I'm ready to change the fans, but am happy with the present state of affairs.

Re: TL550 #7
I'm interested in getting a nano marine tank for my Dad this Christmas and I'm stuck between the TL550 and the HS-60.
As a beginner, will he be able to cope with either of these?

Re: TL550 #8
I have recently bought a Boyu 550. I am having problems with the fan also, but the fan is noisy all the time. Did you change your fans and if so can you explain to me how you went about it. I took the clear screen off the underside of the lid and then took some screws out of the bottom half of the reflector then raised this up, but could only find what looked like 2 transformers. I need to find out where I can find the fans so I can change. Did you get different fans.
