Look what I've got #1
I forgot this forum was here. Look what I *cough* I mean Fishy Jr got the other week. They have moulted already and now they're much bigger. I'll have to get another pic when I clean them out today.

Re: Look what I've got #3
It doesn't look like the standard stick insects we had - is it a fancy stick insect? A leaf insect? All I can remember is ours ate vast quantities of privet and multiplied madly by parthenogenesis and I was very relieved to hand them back to school after hols ... Hope you are enjoying them!

Ps these are the dull kind we had http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carausius_morosus

I'm sure it's very nice and educational, but I'm with Goldy's eldest on this - can't cope with anything like that at all. Even pics of spiders freak me out

It's an Extatosoma tiaratum (or giant prickly stick insect to his friends). They are dead easy to look after and I'm hoping they will breed so let me know if you want any eggs!

This one is just a baby, they do great pretty big.

Don't click on this if you're scared

Extreme close up!

What does it eat, it looks like it should live in a bramble patch?

Yes, they eat brambles, oak, ivy, eucalyptus, hawthorn, all sorts of things. Children, cats....
