Night Lighting #1
Does anyone have a recommendation for a night/moon light for a tropical tank? I'm not after paying an arm and a leg, and don't want to swap out the 2 tubes I've already got. I've done some looking on Google and there seems to be a huge difference in price/type from very cheep to extortionate

Cheers

Ive been looking at waterproof led lighting strips. Not sure if they are any good but they seem to be fairly cheap and you dont have to squeeze them into your hood.

Re: Night Lighting #4
Lots of people here (inc the advisers) have bought blue LEDs from ‘Specialist Lighting’ on Ebay:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Specialist-Lighting-UK

They do x1, x2 or x3 strips depending on the length of the tank, you can also tell them how long you want the bit of joining cable to be between the light strips – measure the top of your tank. Make sure if you do decide to go for these, that the bit of cable that joins the sections you need, fits over any brace bars or the tank lids may not close properly. I’ve had two of these over the years (just siliconed with aquarium sealant onto the bottom of the light bar, but water did eventually get in and they stopped working.

Now upgraded to razor lights: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UK-Aquarium-led ... ?var=&hash=item800eafd70b

The sellers shop is here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Aquarium-Led-Lighting

Completely waterproof and come with little suckers that you can angle down. They don't need to be joined together and you can just run the cable for each (I use two) through the existing slots in the tank lid, but cleverly they link behind the tank so you only need one socket, regardless of how many 'sections' you want. Very nifty. Currently stuck on the top of the back pane but tilted down to the floor. The adapter needed can be bought on the site too

Re: Night Lighting #6
I have a blue led light from hydor i think it is - the biorb ones? suction cups to the inside of the tank or hood. Different effects can be created depending if you have it above or below the water. As it is a spot light efect you can get some good shaft of moonlight effects and if you have a ripple on the water surface it creat a rippled effect on the substrate.
Not sure how much they are £15 i think, had mine a while now and got a discount from where i used to work.

Re: Night Lighting #8
My tip would be that if you want a true blue, low evening lighting in a tank, aim for more blue LEDs than you think you need, otherwise you just tend to get a spot light effect. If you are fitting strip LEDS in the hood with aquarium adhesive, aim for the whole length of the tank (invest a few pounds more) for a far better view!
