sand for discus tank #1
hi , i am about to set up a 5ft bio tank for wild discus and plan to use laterite for the substrat with about 20mm covering of play sand ( play sand is neutral will not affect ph or gh but will not support plants hence the use of laterite) has any other members tried this and what problems if any have been encountered, i know a bare bottom is the easy opption for discus but the sand will allow natual behaviour for wild fish as they like to blow the sand when lookin for food.the plants will give cover for the fish as wild fish tend to be a bit shy till settled in.
