I have a garden pond - circa 700galls & over the last 8 years my goldfish have been breeding like good-uns.

Problem is I now have so many my filter is struggling to cope & I would like to reduce the number.
Is it true you can't move them to local ponds without risking prosecution?

You'll need permission from the owner to move them to a pond. They must not be moved to an unowned or wild lake, river or pond because they're not a native species.

As above.

Releasing non native fish to an area is hazourdous to the current wild life. It could bring disease or as I found out, demolish the current population.

Some inconsiderate w***** released an enourmous catfish into the river/stream that feed the welling ponds at my dad's old place.

That little b****** made its way to the ponds where it was met with a feast of foot long brown trout and a whole host of delicous fish fry we'd just paid thousands to have put in.

I caught it without realising it was in there, thank god really.

I called the rivers association who basically said dispose of it so the groundsman cut its head off.

Be very careful moving them.
A friends pond is fine but research any thing else as you may be liable for prosecution.

Hi Henrik, welcome to the forums, I agree with the others, but why not put an add in the local paper, and sell them for enough to cover the cost of the ad?

Or sometimes, a local aquatic centre will buy them.

I agree. If you can't sell the fish, you should be able to give them away. If you'd like to not have to deal with this again, consider adding a predator to your pond.

I would not suggest a predator. To a predator it will see it as a free meal (which it is) and only stop when they have all been eaten.
