What is this? #1
Hi & hello to all
I am new here and looking for help. I have mystery shrimp like creatures that appear to have arrived on some plants I bought. Image hopefully attached. Can someone identify them and tell me if the will harm my goldfish please.
Thanks
Susikatz

mrmouse is right, it is a water louse although this is not the same as a fish louse which is a kind of parasite, so I think it is harmless. If your fish are big enough they will probably eat it

Thanks both. YUK! Bad enough having woodlice in the house. How do I get rid of them please? I guess my 8cm fantail goldfish can eat them but I am hoping to get some neons for my other tank and they appear to be on my plants.

Hi suzicatz, I use Potassium Permanganate, you can get it from Boots chemist in a 25g tub, or probably any chemist, Don't use it much now has I have Cichlids so only have floating plants, instructions how to use it in this link.....http://www.aquajake.com/blog/planting ... g-plants-before-or-after/ It would be interesting to hear if anyone else still uses this method. Oh and welcome to the Forum

how big is it? its not a dragon fly in larval stage is it, we've had them over 1" long, scary when you grab one on a plant, have pincers , harmless I think unless you have very small fish. eventually climb out, dry out on a plant and fly off.

hi mrmouse. Thanks I'll be off to the chemist & indulge in some chemistry experiments! Any thoughts on how I can kill the little b's in the tank with goldfish?

Hi Doddsy. Not dragonfly larva, now I know they are there I've found them in various sizes from almost too tiny to see to about 1cm. I'm pretty sure it is waterlouse looks just like the images mrmouse referred me to. Thanks anyway.
