I am completely new to keeping tropical fish and currently have one pair of Dwarf Gourami. These are already a favourite of mine and I would like another pair. Although they are a peaceful fish, can anyone tell me if more than one pair will live safely together, or would there be a tendency for the males to compete for the females?

Looks to me like they would be ok, except during breeding, when the males can get territorial and aggressive. If you can find another peaceful pair you should be ok.

YOUR BEST BET WOULD BE TO PUT MORE FEMALES THAN MALES IN THE TANK TO STOP ANY FIGHTING THAT MAY OCCUR

I have always found dwarf gouramis to be aggressive towards each other, I have always ended up with just 1 and usually the female (I guess that is just my luck)
They are not particually aggressive fish, and they cant inflict much damage but they do harras each other and I have usually ended up with one getting wounds and dieing.

however they are cheap and it might work, its certainly worth a try.

can I also suggest you add some cabomba to your tanbk for them to eat and hide in, I always found they love it
