Gutted #1
Hi all,
A little while ago I noticed the fishy in my avatar had a swollen belly, panic set it and I began the search for sticky up scales fearing the worst... none.
Ok I thought could be eggs! ... so I waited... nothing.
I went away Saturday morning and came home this afternoon to a very mis-shapen fish I'm now thinking tumour or swollen internal organ... I'm so gutted I can't tell ya.

Oh god, what a horrible thing to have to come back home to.

I'm so sorry.

Are you going to try and treat the fishy??

Re: Gutted #5
Sorry to hear that Euryale

One of my mum's fish (a very odd shaped oranda/ryukin type fish) became more swollen and mishapen than normal last week. It's a similar shape fish to your avatar, but with a dorsal fin and a bit shorter in the body.

After a frantic phone call from her, I advised her to give the fish cooked shelled garden peas, crushed up, as maybe the fish was constipated! (I thought, in the back of my mind that maybe her fish had got a tumour, but did not have the heart to tell her! )

Well, the fish is now happy and swimming around again!
Mum thinks its wonderful!

Maybe you could try this and see what happens?
It's worth a try if nothing else?
"Oh, to be a fish!!!"

Re: Gutted #6
My first question would be what does the poo look like?

Is it white, stringy, floaty zig zaggy?

Certainly constipation can be a problem, mostly that is from too much dry foods though and Peas popped from there shells do help. They need not be cooked either.. frozen is preferable over canned.

It will take a bit of observation, but lets see what the poo is like or if its pooing here!

We never stop learning!

Re: Gutted #7
I've been feeding shelled peas for days now with no result, the lump is on the one side of the fish bulging out so much now that its starting to twist the spine.
I was hoping it was constipation but to date it looks unlikely.
My fish have a varied diet as well including lots of veggies frozen & live treats.

Re: Gutted #8
Any chance of a pic?

Have you try to feel the bump on the side? Is it firm or soft?
I know enough to know that I don't know enough

Re: Gutted #9
Heres a few pics - the lump is on the right hand side of the fish, I have changed the colours on the second photo to hopefully make it easier to see the lump as being white as well as the bowl its a bit difficult. The lump is firm and at the moment I'm thinking tumour, I would be gratefull for anyone elses opinions on my poor baby

Re: Gutted #10
