Re: Has anyone got the aquamarine 900??? #201
Hi Greggers,
Best post a new thread about your anenome with full water parameters and tank details (plus pictures if possible). People just wont spot another question here unless its about the actual tank!

Anenome are tricky critters and often do poorly in captivity, its takes more than spot on parameters to keep them. You also need the right sort of tank, right tank mates and the right anenome plus I suspect a good dose of luck.

Day 13 since set up, plenty of brown algae on LR & live sand, seen couple of tiny crawley things on LR. lots of bubbles coming off LR & sand, but still nothing from protein skimmer, is this normal? looking to do 1st 20% water change at weekend...is this too early.
responses appreciated

Definitely time for a water change, not sure about the protein skimmer as I didn't have one in the first few months. What are the test results like?

Test results as of 15/9- ph 8.4/ ammonia 0.25/ nitrate 0.05/ nitrate 5.0.
done water change tonite (25ltr) will leave a couple days for things to settle then do tests again.
looking at previous posts regarding availabilty of ro water, i found my local aqualife centre to be very helpful. i paid £9.99 for 25 ltr container with water then £2.50 to refill (£5.00 with salt mix)

Hi britespark

just one thing to watch, I originally got ready mixed salt water from my local aqualife centre. The salt they use has very low calcium levels ( about 300 ) if you are going to add corals this is way too low. I had a real job getting levels up, have switched to making my own salt water mix up using red sea pro. Lots of water changes later my level is only just coming up at have now got 420.

Buying your own salt is cheaper than getting the lfs to add it but thats not the reason you should. The lfs will almost always use the cheapest salt they can get hold of, whatever is on a promotion and this means that you cannot guarantee stability in your tank. Theres also a storage issue, often the salt is stored in an open bucket and you have no idea what might fall in. You also cant test the purity of the RO water and again we have a track record of lfs selling bad RO.
If you purchase RO from the lfs always test it with your own TDS meter before using it.

I havent been online for a while, I come back and the aquamarine 900 thread has 21 pages wooahhhh! I am glad more people are deciding to buy this particular tank. Yeh there has been a few problems with it to begin with but I must admit mine is running like a dream! I now have 4 fishes in my tank and some more corals. I wish people would put pictures up!! pictures are definately needed
