Idea for new forum section #1
Hi all

I was thinking that it'd be a great idea to create a new section on the forum for "Innovations".

This would basically cover anything that people have made to help them in their fishkeeping hobby, or to improve anything existing that they use.

E.g. a homemade spraybar for a filter that doesn't normally have one etc

Sounds like a good idea EM. I have made a few innovations in my time.
Hi Peeps. I still have plenty of Assassin Snails for sale to help control pest snails that creep in on your plants. PM me for details

Re: Idea for new forum section #3
Could that not just fall under the 'setting up' of each section?

Too many different catagories could just confuse things?

Would be interesting to read about innovations though, good thought!

Re: Idea for new forum section #4
My thoughts behind making it a seperate section were that it'd be easier to share the wealth of knowledge this way, regardless of pond, marine, trop or cold.

Some excellent innovations will definately get lost in the mass of other posts in the main parts/setup parts of the forum.

I vote for a separate section. Yeah!

Re: Idea for new forum section #5
an innovation or a 'how to' section that covers all I think could be a good idea attached to the general section of the forum
It could also incorporate a section for newbies on cycling so regs dont feel like theyre repeating themselves and newbies get all the info they need at once

Re: Idea for new forum section #6
PEFECT!

All threads should start with "How To:"

e.g.

How To: Do a fishless cycle

How To: Buy a healthy fish

How To: Make a spraybay for a Fluval blah blah

How To: ..............

Its a good idea and i do like it, but we need to be careful we dont start adding things that could go into the article pages, like fishless cycling, buying healthy stock etc.

I agree, but surely that'd be for the Mods/admin to decide at the time of the article being posted.

defo agree too but will throw in that the more places essential articles such as fishless cycling can in appear the better it could be all round. sometimes it's good to repeat an article on a forum to ensure users read it, as is already happening regarding posters quoting the fishless cycle thread from general to those asking.

Re: Idea for new forum section #10
I dont think we need a new forum for this is the right way to go. Too many forums creates confusion and an agrophobic experience but the possibility of creating a new articles section for DIY & Innovations is interesting.

Things like how to safely modify a stand to include a sump, how to design and build a stand for a tank, repair a leak, build a tank from scratch, make a prefilter, make an external filter, a calcium reactor, Yeast based CO2 and terraced planting have all been articles, blogs or posts in the past and I wouldn't know where to find them now.

However there is a General Guides section in the articles section already and this currently only contains 11 articles so there is plenty of room for more in there before a dedicated section is needed.

Get those guides and articles written people!
