Siamese fighter in a bowl #1
hello, i have got a siamese that has developed fin rot, ive started using myxazin, but after quarintining him into a bowl, it is really hard as the temperature in my house is only around 19/20 degrees, ive been using a small fanheater to keep my room warm, but it isnt very practical. I thought i could just use myxazin in my aquarium, but i have a black ghost knife, it is supposed to be sensitive to medication, ive asked around but no one really knows. Can any one help me my betta cant stay in the bowl, and i cant skip skool to make sure the rooms warm. I have a small 19 litre nursery tank at the moment, any help please.

Re: Siamese fighter in a bowl #2
A temperature of 19/20 degrees is going to stress a Siamese Fighter, so adding medication won't do much good at this temperature - I would put him back into the main tank and treat him there, personally, as I've treated tanks containing Black Ghosts with Myxazin on several occasions without any problems, and they are my favourite fish, so I wouldn't take any chances! Protozin is the medication which can cause problems with knife fish if memory serves me right.
Be very careful not to overdose, however, because Ghosties are sensitive fish as you rightly say, and lots of other factors can influence their ability to cope with medications, for instance toxin levels, pH, hardness and overbearing tankmates can all contribute to the general stress level of the fish. As long as your water conditions are fine, and you stick to the dosage, you shouldn't have any problems - good luck!

Re: Siamese fighter in a bowl #3
thanks loads, i put him back in the tank anyway, the temp dropped quickly, so i thought it wouldnt be fair on him. Im gonna start dosing tommorrow, i previously used 1ml or one drop over as my tank is 18.75 litres odd number i know.

I hope its safe, cos my whole tank was wiped out before, i think i overstocked, 5 guppies, 1 redtail shark, 4 tetras and for a little while a blue gourami.Im jus stickin to 3 now, ghostie, betta and red finned shark. I hope it wasnt the myxazin that killed the others.

Re: Siamese fighter in a bowl #4
you sure it is fin rot and not the knife fish nipping it?

also beware about the size ghost knives can get to, 50cm is too large a fish for most peoples tanks
