slugs breeding like rabbits #1
Resized Image

I came downstairs a few nights ago and found that my slug population has grown emmensly in the last few months. there must have been at least 20 of the larger type in the photo and 10 or 15 of the little snails. The lights had only been off about 10 minutes.

I'm not sure what the slug like ones are, though I think I have been told before that they are okay for the tank. I know the pictures a bit blurred but can you advise me on whether I should be doing anything to keep the numbers down.

Thanks

Nicky

Hi there..

Dont worry about the slugs/snail theyll eventually die down.. they are called Stomatella i had an out break a while ago but did a great job of cleaning the tank.. theyre nothing but great to have!...

After a while theyll die down to only a few..

I've got the exact same snails - last count there were 18. They used to hide out during the day, but were out at night within about 10 minutes. Now there are so many that I can often see them during the day too. No idea what to do about them, but they don't seem to be causing any trouble!

As Felixflame mentioned. Stomatellas are good guys. They're handy for cleaning difficult areas which large snails can't reach.

Glad they are god guys as I counted 23 of the blighters last night. Also pleased they only come out at night as they look so unsightly!
