Some more pics of the newts #1
They are seven weeks old now and looking much more newt-like. Still in their aquatic stage but should be breathing air in a few weeks. Coralline's white worms are a godsend as they adore them and aren't that interested in frozen food unless you can fool them into eating it by wiggling it infront of them

We've had two incidents of newty fisticuffs over worms, I try to feed them at the same time but sometimes one is in hiding then appears as if by magic when the other is given a worm. So far only small scuffles and triumphant running off with worm

They were having a 'Mexican stand-off' over dinner in this pic then one weakened and turned away just as I pressed the button!

They swim about quite a bit but when they want to hide it is nigh on impossible to find them even in their small tank. Swimming is quite inelegant considering they are amphibians, they do the doggy paddle (or should that be newty paddle?) crossed with a sort of star jump move. Star jumps are one of their favourite tricks:

They are about two inches long now, this is the biggest one posing in some plants:

They have got names now too, biggest is Isaac ('Newt'on) and smallest is Isambard (no real reason, Mr S felt it went well with Isaac)

Well it seems they may be breathing air a little sooner than I thought! Biggest one has his head out of the water this morning and his gills have shrunk Looks like I'm going to have to find things for them to climb on

Natural floating cork bark is cool, nice and grippy and seriously bouyant.

They look really good BTW suey, nice and healthy. I love them at that age, their gills make them look all windswept and interesting. Like kids with static hair.

Thanks everyone Exciting wasn't quite the word when I found one almost entirely out of the water just now, nearly had heart failure! Then I remembered they're newts so it's ok - really not used to the idea that aquatic things come out of the water after all these years keeping fish
