Not sure what this is... #1
Hi all,

New to Fishkeeping - great site btw!

I have been setting up a reef tank (105 lrs) for the past month or so. I have just introduced two cleaner shrimps, 5 hermit crabs and 5 turbo snails. As an addition to the tank I was given a coral as a gift but I aint got a clue as to what it is. Could someone please identify it for me?

Thanks

Ian

Hi igs924, and welcome to fk. I believe the coral is a torch coral and it is a prefer coral for clownfish to host than the anemone especially for nano tank. here is a link to help... http://www.tropicalfish4u.co.uk/Corals/Hard-Corals/TorchCoral

Keep us posted and keep the pics coming too.

Welcome igs942, the coral you have there is a Torch coral, latin name Euphyllia glabrescens, its an LPS coral (large polyped species) HTH

Thanks everyone for your help with this. Much appreciated. It's good to hear that there's a good chance that Clowns will host this as we plan to get a pair soon.

Thanks again

Hi igs942, Ive got the pom pom variety of euphylia, which looks very much like yours only more rounded. It's a beautiful coral and mine enjoys a bit brine shrimp every now and again, they're unusual when feeding because they tie themselves in knots around the food. I also feed the tank marine snow and phytoplankton for the corals so it might be worth introducing some to your tank for your new addition to thrive on. Good luck with your tank, keep the pics coming

Thanks Karen. I'll have to get some for it. I now seem to have some sort of worm-like thing in my tank. It looks like it's living in the live rock, in a tube that looks like it's made of rock. It's a really weird looking thing with a funny head with either spikes, horns or tentacles on it and if I look carefully I can see that it seems to suck in some sort of slime to feed?? Like I said rather strange. Here's a shot of it. Could anyone ID this?
Thanks a lot.
