Do you test the water when it appears?

Re: White foam #3
I do and they seem fine ammonia is at zero constantly and nitrAte and nitrIte are showing as minimal. It only appears on cold days or say if it has rained during the night.

I think i shall go take a sample of water to Koi Kabin n see if he can test it just to make sure I am getting accurate readings.

What are you thinking in the water could cause this foam?

Re: White foam #4
White and a brownish fam on the surface of the pond is caused by excess protien in the water. Caused I would think by over feeding and or dead and rotting fish/plant matter.

The only way I know to rid your self of the problem is with a "fractionator" a bit like a protien skimmer in a marine tank.

Im bound to have misspelled that ar indeed even given a completly wrong name, so if anyone knows the proper one fell free to correct me.

Re: White foam #6
well I can't see it with over feeding as we are on reduced single feed now for the winter. What fractionator could I have for a pond. Sorry am a bit clueless with this term

Re: White foam #7
What type of food are you feeding? And whats the temperature of the pond?

Foaming is nearly always down to high levels of protein in the water.

Re: White foam #8
Feeding with wheatgerm (sp) pellets. I do not know the temp of the water as I was not really up to it the past couple of days. Full of flu and cold, but I will check .

It could be rotting plants I did notice a couple of leaves and such at the bottom but I will have to wait till my stength comes back to take the net off and remove them

Re: White foam #9
It probably will be the protien in the water from plants breaking down at this time of year, not necessrily over feeding as you are on one small feed a day. Some times a form of algae can grow in ponds that also causes foaming but i doubt its this as its getting to cold for algal blooms.
May i suggest a water change? Try doing one or two a week for it and see if it starts to cear up a bit.

Re: White foam #10
The foam isn't exactly that bad, it only occurs around where the stream connects with the pond. And seeing how I have a 2200 gallon pond I dont think its worth doing a water change. Thats for the input though. Apparently my brother has noticed that one of the lilly has had a final burst of life and tried to throw out annother flower but it has failed so I guessing your right about the rotting plant life

cheers for input
