I have found it extremely difficult to find anyone selling Rena filstar xp1's. the only prices I have at the mo is between £80-90. whereas I can get an ehiem ecco 2232 for £52.99. now for some info, I have a 45ltre tank with goldfish, I want to keep a max of three. I therefore thought I would go for the xp1, but as I've said tricky to buy. another filter that looks good is the Eheim Professional 2222 at £64.99 and as a kinda afterthought as I've heard there not that good the Fluval 104 at £43.99. I don't want to be tied down to expensive custom media if possible and don't know if any of the above have this limitation, I would prefer baskets I think so I can use whatever is cheapest. please help very confused.
First can I just point out that goldfish need at least 8 uk gallons each which is roughly 40 gallons, so your tank is not really big enough for 3 goldfish unless they are small at present and you are planning on upgrading to a bigger tank later, now back to the filters the Rena filters are brilliant I have the xp3 and it keeps my Rena classic spotless with my large goldfish, now for where to get one and how much, well maidenhead aquatics sell them but as for price I do not know I will try to find out for you though, I also hear that Eheim are very good, I also have fluval internals in my other tanks and find they are very good but dont know how the external are for performance etc I would imagine they are good two, but Rena get my vote as the best if you can afford one
ive just found a site doing the xp1 for £49.95 its called www.buckingham-nurseries.co.uk but they dont seem to stock any media for it? can i use other brands media eg. fluval and ehiem, as i understand it has baskets for the media. so could i use rena pads and fluval or other cabon granuals or bio ceramics?
i had a look at the xp1, and wasnt impressed by the single basket size. should i get the eheim 2222 at £65 or the 2224 at £78. initially its going on a 45l tank but later i might buy a 90l. i always think that what will do a lot will do a little, but i dont want to suck the tank through the filter if you no what i mean. i was considering the rena xp1 until i saw how small the media basket was, they say 4l capcity but i recon most of that is water. my only other option is the xp2 at £61.99 i suppose, but again i do like the look of those eheim's. what would you do?
