Green Water - Help/Suggestions Please #1
I know there been other posts about green water.... mine is going very green now... it quite a large pond - 30ft x 20ft and 3 1/2 ft deep... c6-8000 gals. Its in full sun most of the day, but has been gradually going down hill over the past 4 weeks (when we've not had much sun!)...

There are 3 pumps - 1 for the filter, 1 for protein extractor and 1 for fountain/aeration....

The filter is a biotec 30, with a 72watt UV unit.. and a new bulbs fitted in May and by the spyhole they're working...

I am thinking about doing a major water change - would this help???

Thanks for that info - I've just ordered 1ltr....

Also advised to turn the flow rate down from 30k lph to 15 - 20k lph, to allow the UV to cope better..... will do that now to at least arrest the greenness development....

LOL - it is one hell of a garden at 1 acre .... become even more hellish when we lost our 1 day a week gardener/handyman last year - but that will teach us for buying our house with rose tinted spectacles on 12 years ago!!

Thanks Dragonlord and Dale for your quick responses..

reducing it to 20K would ensure all that comes out is denatured etc but less of it is physically coming through it so an extra UV would be better with a filter say on the return from the protein extractor that filter could just be a fine filter pad job so you can blast it clean with the hose or just chuck the media every time its dirty

When you replaced the UV lamp did you remove and clean the quartz sleeve? Thats the glass tube it slides into, really common mistake is to change the bulb only which does no good if the tube is to dirty to allow the UV rays through.

Its quite a big pond so adding a second or bigger UV is something I would consider anyway. TMC do a 110w unit called the Pro Pond UV, its based around twin 55watt UV lamps - its not on my website but details are on TMC site. I nomally sell them for £220 so not that pricey for a really good UV solution.

Good point about cleaning the glass sleeve - i'll get that done asap....

I do have a spare UV which I can hook upto the feed into the protein extractor.... I'll dig it out and give it a good clean up....

Acural order, postal strike permitting, should get it in time for the weekend..

Does anyone know a good supplier of UV tubes? The ones I got in May cost over £100 from my local supplier - but there must be a more reasonable internet supplier somewhere...
