Ok... Been looking about and had just about decided on the aquamarine 900 by aquaone, but went to view one tonight and have gone off it. Even the bloke in the shop said they are not that great. The filter system looks a bit pants too!!!
So it's left me wondering what to do. I could convert my aquaone 850, but I need to upgrade the lights and it was suggested I go for the solid state lights which is going to cost about ?150. Or I sell my tank ( I have a buyer who will pay ?150 inc fish). I'm then looking to spend ?300 on a new tank inc stand. I have a seperate budget for all the "other stuff" I need.
Any good looking tanks out there for about that sort of cost? Was hoping to be around the 150L size.
Looks like i might be able to get a good deal on the tank without the marisys filtration. Just a quick one on that side of things?
If you use live rock in a canister filter will it not die off as there is no light inside it? Sorry if its a dumb question.
There are also many views on using canisters in marine setups and how they can be a nitrate factory etc. Do you have any views on this. I'm not trying to question your advice, but just want to get it right.
mullsy: Thanks for letting me know. I have seen such massive differences in price on this tank and some shops are not willing to sell you just the tank without the filtration. "it comes as a kit" is what i'm told. So far I'm looking at ?299 for the tank and stand + all the other bits i need.
Just a quick question about rock. I'm doing all my fact finding before i take the plunge!!!
The tank i'm looking at is 178L and so i reckon i need 20kg of rock min to start. So my question is would it be ok to use 15kg of LR and then use the "dead rock" i have in my tropical to bulk it out as i have about 20-30kg in that tank now. Its the same kind of rock, but just the dried stuff you can buy for ?4-5 a kg in the shop? I know any goodies on that rock will die off due to the salt, but after time will the Live Rock seed the "dead rock".
Ok, Crunch time........ Do i get the Aquamarine 900 or the Orca TL 550 or something else?
I have an AquaOne 850 (tropical) so i know the build quality of their tanks, but i hear so many people saying they are noisy and the filter is not that great!
I have got a deal for the tank + stand, first RO fill and coral sand for ?399. I just cant make up my mind what to get as i like the fact that some other tanks have it all built in the back and have UV and fans etc.
