Re: Help with Pond Setup #1
hi would like to give my input on the laguna filer system
i have a laguna pressure flo 12000 system (whent for this as i could bury the filter in ground and cover it with decking) this works very well for me my water is clear nearly all the time i only have green water when i have alge bloom which i treat with cloverleaf blanket weed killer the filter is easy to clean as you just turn the leaver and backwash it with the punmp done in 3-4 mins only have to strip the filter down twice a year to clean out the big bits.
fed is right about your system you should get the gravity fed system working as it is there just needs some tltc by the looks of things.
but i would recomed the laguna to newbes if they just wanted something easy to look after and hide away.
goody!!

Re: Raised Pond made from railway sleepers #2
ooooooooo got a nice mountain in back ground would look nice with those sleepers embedded in the grass go for it just rember just make it bigger than you want it to be when finished cos you will lose about 20% - 25% of the area you dig out when you have lined it ie if you want it to be 1.25m deep go 1.5m deep cos when you put sand and form in bottom you will be surprised how much room it takes up and if you are stuck for length and width go deeper to get the volume
hope i have helped

Re: Hole in pond liner #3
it must be catching i have awoke to same sort of problem losing water out my pond its been fine for the last 4 months since build and now just decided to pump water down the side of the pond wall instead of over the waterfall at least i know where it is going lol
so this morning took the bull by the horns and rerouted my pipes and emptied my small feeder/plant pool pond thingy took out liner and removed my waterfall now am going to alter the brick work and make a new waterfall out of brick then render the small pond /pool on inside and then going to have this small pond fiber glassed so will not leak again!!!!
will also get a quote for having the big pond done next year cos after speaking to my friend who dose G R P he said that for him to do if would not have cost me much more than my liner cost me so i will see and i will let you all know how i get on

Re: ok made my hole now what #5
thanks for all the nice comments yes i am very pleased with my pond it has taken me 3 months to complete but i think it looks cool
Dale it started out @ 3.4 X 2 X 1.25 external
finished size is 3.2 X 1.6 X 1 meters internal plus small pool @ 1.25 X 0.85 X 0.75 filled with plants (this was going to be where i was going to have my filter but i then decided to have a pressurized filter so dug a new hole next to pond and buried it and covered it with decking this area also houses all the electric points )
as the blocks and insulation took up more room than i expected so be warned anyone who builds a pond make it as big as you can as size matters LOL
i will now make a blog in the next few days to cut down this thread to try to pass on my experiences to others who would like to build a pond and hope it will help them make less mistakes as they will as they build
PS if i can help anyone please ask

Re: more pond weed. #10
hi i had blanket weed and i used
cloverleaf blanket weed killer its a bio based product so not harmful to plants or fish mix the white powder in a water can and pour into pond water goes milky but clears in a few days
2 weeks later NOW NO WEED just a layer of silt on bottom of pond hence my need of a pond vac see my post lol
you do need to keep cleaning your filter out every 2 days as it kills the weed and collects in there but you must try to pull the weed out with a stick each day as well to help the bio work and reduce the crap in the filter
