Re: where to put tank?? #1
The radiator does sound implausable.
My old and current tank is on a large windowsill but there is a blind that I can put down behind it and I also backed it with tin foil to help reflect rays. Never noticed any temp changes or algae problems.
Entirely different to a radiator though I would imagine.

Re: Questions #2
OK Ordered a wooden one which will hopefully mean my lifelong mission is accomplished. Means the massive airstone I bought today was a waste of money - didnt work as hoped. The valve tap thing I got was baaad as well so ordered an algarve set. I'm leaking money!!

Any handy tips to get the water clear as crystal?

Re: Questions #3
Perfection! Seems they are called wooden air diffusers :)
Just need to find a good UK supply as the first site I saw says they may need replacing every 3-4 weeks or when the bubble size is bigger.

Questions #4
OK so I took a sample to LFS (half an hour away!!) half expecting them to tell me to wait but they (suspiciously) said Im good to go. So I took the plunge and got 5 golden tetras who all seem fine in the tank now.

Anyway 2 questions I can think of:
- I have always strived for the perfect airstone - one that discharges like a mist of air rather than bubbles that rise very fast. Does anyone know any that I can order online?

- I put an ancient piece of wood in the tank 3 weeks ago and the water colour is particularly bad! Can i sort this out of will it just be a combo of water changes every weekend and time taking its course?
