im adding some tetras to the tank over the next few weeks.
last week i got some beautuful blue ones, added 4 to the tank and 3 died. i know my tank is ok and i know why they died as well. im off for a few a months holiday soon and decided to add an air filter or stone to the tank so that the o2 quality is better while im away and not doing extra water changes. didnt set it up when i put the blue tetras in and when i checked back a short time later 3 were dead and one was gasping so i decided to put the air filter on and within minuetes the little tetra was fine. i figure it must be because the fish in the shop are used to having air rated tanks and then with the stress of the move had trouble with my o2 levels.
the following day i went back to get more tetras as i know they dont like being on their own. i got the last blue one, 4 gold and 4 zebra.
the following day all the zebras were gone. i dont think they have been eaten as its odd that its only the zebras. i think ive had a mass death jump.
over the next couple of weeks im going to add some congo tetra and another pictus cat fish. hopefully they wont disapear lol
had a slight accident with my lap top and some water and im having major problems with my insurance company which is the reason ive not been around for a while. as soon as its sorted will post some pics and update everyone on my tanks. ive missed chatting to people on here.
im getting a new lizard on wednesday so was setting up its viv last night. i decided to move my geckos to my bedside table where monster my newt lives and put her tank ontop of the gecko viv, then the new viv ontop of loki, my skink's viv where the geckos used to be. following?
in all the time ive had monster i have never had a lid on her tank, she barely sticks her head out of the water let alone tryes to escape. can you see where this is going?
my new baby newts were (note the past tense) in a plastic fish tank next to the big vivs a few feet away from my bedside table.
this afternoon i notice a lack of newt. now why do i do this? i can see she isnt there but i still check the tank a few times. its not like a newt of that size can hide very well but i still assume i havent seen her. denial is good.
now im not panicing yet but i start searching, praying she is in the area underneath the table. if she has gone further the chances of finding her is slim especially as the area under the bed is my cats territory and she is now watching me with interest from her fav spot a foot in from the edge (same side as the table) as i shine a light around.
i start carefully moving junk and the worm tank to check underneath for monster. no newt but i do find a cable which i catch by mistake. the new controller for the UV light for the new viv comes crashing down into the plastic tank with the baby newts. bad words were said at this point. so i fish the power supply thingy out of the water and notice an odd shadow. babies arnt happy at this point and neither am i as i notice water dripping over the edge. the controller cracked the plastic and its leaking. so i grab a towl, transfer the little ones into monsters tank, carefully empty the water into a bucket and go back to searching for the stupid newt who believed she could fly.
i found her hiding under a plastic bag that had got pushed under the bed. she was about 2 inches from the cat.
after being washed off she is in a holding pen while i try and work out where to move the babies to. im going to do another water change incase that was the reason for the escape but honestly i think she was just being nosey becuase im sure she was watching the babies in there late and lamented tank yesterday. the lid is going on the tank now as well, as i have learnt my lesson.
anyway i thought id share...
oh, do you think if i leave the controller to dry out it will be useable?
i have two methods. first is hooks and clothes pegs on suckers. great for cabbage leaves and such, second is cheap screwdriver from asda for 10p which does the chunkier veg such as cuecumbers and carrots.
you havent had him for long. im sure he is fine. how would you like to be a little child fighting all your family, then be dumped somewhere else and then moved again and again till you are given a nice tank all to yourself. you'd be scared to lol
just give him time. my boo was timid for months and after about 4 he is still the shyest of the lot.
prawns arnt that good. lambs liver is the best thing to use as a treat. it is good to get them to trust you in regaurds to hand feeding. for months i just held a peice infront of a hide in the tank and iut disapeared. hardly saw boo at all.
i hand feed fraggle as much as possible and when i got her back in januray i did it all the time. now she will come and nussel my fingers and sit in my hand.
