Re: Holiday blues #2
Could use one of those pill boxes, used for setting out dosages over the week :)

You could also ask your friends to email you photos each week that you are away to put your mind at rest :D

Re: Caught the bug, I want a bigger tank!!!! #3
Also, I'm told that with a bigger tank the water parametres are easier to maintain, and are generally more stable once matured :)

I recently (last week!) a second hand Rio180 and stand for £75! eBay is a good place to look. Just refine your search to your local area!

Thanks

Plan so far is things like Pentazona barbs, rasboras perhaps. That kind of thing. Have to be fish that can escape a marauding chinese algae eater :-|

Might be tempted by some tetras but I doubt it

I'm now the proud owner of a Juwel Rio 180 Won on eBay the other week, and was a birthday present to myself

I've had it filled with water for nearly a week, and used cycled filters to get it going whilst my new canister filter (Tetratec EX700) was on order.

Currently it has my chinese algae eater in it, some tetraplant substrate toped with gravel, some plants waiting to be planted and a few small bits of bogwood! It looks a little sparse.

Still, its soooo cool! Not looking forward to regular water changes though!

Re: What a bargain!!!!!!!!!!!! #6
My dad phoned me on Sunday saying he'd seen a tank at one of our local boot sales. Not sure what brand but it was the same size as my main tank (30"x12") with lights/filter. They wanted £20 so I asked him to haggle to £15 but it had gone when he got back to it

Re: counting your fish... #8
I tend to do this too

I tend to count in the morning if I get time. I worry about the little'uns. No real technique, just dart my eyes around as quick as I can. Not too many to count though

Re: Newbie: Submerged filter question #9
The rippling/water disturbance helps to get oxygen into the water

Re: Stressed, or dissease? #10
Sorry, wasn't thinking straight when I posted that Amonia is 0 according to my amonia test kit.

Took some videos the other evening, showing the pale minnow:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=I3jzaabErJM

You can see in the first few seconds the pale minnow and a normal coloured one.

After the water change last night, again they all looked better this morning. I expect I'll return home to see them pale again :-|

I'm worried about dosing for parasites as the various parasite meds will affect filter bacteria. I'm not sure what to do really.
