Re: can everybody sign this please!!! #6
I wont sign anything the RSPCA has anything to do with as they are trying to ban fishing with a rod and line and the keeping of fish in a glass prison.

I had quite a discussion with one of them who was collecting money in Gloucester a while back now. She recconed that I was a criminal for keeping fish, and a murderer for fishing.

Re: New to Marine, new tank! How's it sound? #7
The reason I got rid of my hydrometer,a TMC model with a claimed accuracy of 0.002, was that it was giving me a reading of 1.023 and when I checked with a friends refractometer it was actualy 1.032 it nearly gave me a heart attack. I would say that it has been the best investment that I have made in marine fishkeeping.

Your cup might be a larger size than the one used to calculate the amount of salt needed. Just keep it at 1.024 and you will be fine. I have binned my hydrometer and got a refractometer, far more accurate and easy to use.

Re: Sky rocketing Nitrate. #10
You are putting a load of Nitrate into your system evry time you feed frozen. So try rinseing the food under a running tap like I do to cleanse and de-frost the food, dont worry about chlorine as the amount that will be left on the food will be zilch.
Just as an experiment take a block of frozen and thaw it out in a 2 pint container and see what your Nitrate readings are then.....
