pelvic fin missing #4
Hi there

I have 6 white clouds and nothing else in a 48 liter tank. Tested my water, all is fine (used API testing kit)

I've just noticed feeding them that one of them is missing its pelvic fin...we've had the White Clouds for around 6 months and have no problems with them. They were introduced to a fully cycled tank. I have an air stone, filter and two live plants.

All the others seem fine and the one whos missing the fin doesn't seem to have any other problems with the rest of his fins...no fraying or anything.

Im just perplexed as white clouds dont tend to fight do they? Not sure how this happened...

Any advice on what might have caused it, if this has happened to anyone else...and how i can look after him please?

Also i did notice that he didn't swim to the top quickly like the others did when i fed them...in fact he really didn't eat much at all poor fella. He is swimming around though, hes not sitting on the bottom or gasping for air.

Thanks

admitting defeat :-( #5
Hi

My fantail has been ill for a while now and we've decided the best possible thing we can do for him is to return him to the aquatics centre where we bought him from. The guy there said that they will take care of him. We've learnt a harsh lesson that fantails are NOT easy to look after and are holding our hands up now.

They told me to either put him in a freezer bag or tupperware box. I have bags but was wondering if a square ice cream box would be ok although its not transparent as its a bit more sturdier?

Any tips on how to make the transition and 10min drive to the centre less traumatic for him please?

Thanks

oh no i feel awful now!! my poor goldie!! I'm such an idiot, i thought the charcoal ones looked totally different! I was worried about it and asked the guy from the store and he said "oh you'd know if it's charcoal because it'll be like actual charcoal" I didnt realise you could get impregnated ones! I feel so guilty

Well Ive checked him this morning and he's covered even more now. When you say back to back changes do you mean one immediately after the other so it removes the current medication?

Also can I just check, carbon filter are charcoal filled arnt they? I have a plain black sponge but there's no charcoal crystals or anything.

Thanks

Re: ICK!!!! goldfish - do i use heat or not? #9
hi-my ammonia is 0 Nitrites 0 and nitrates 20ppm - i dont have a carbon filter.

If i were to use another medication what percentage water change should i do...

And do you think the previous comment was right? should i not hold out too much hope? Would it be better to put him out of his misery? I hate the thought of him suffering

ICK!!!! goldfish - do i use heat or not? #10
Hi

Whats the best treatment for goldfish with ICK whos really struggling? Protozin or aquarium salt with increased heat? Ive been using Protozin for three days and hes covered in it now and is really struggling. I asked someone about salt and heat and they said it would kill him as hes freshwater. He just seems to be getting worse. He's just sitting around, breathing heavy and hiding and will occasionally come out for a swim around. I have an air stone and have turned it up to get more oxygen going round.

I've checked my water levels and all is spot on.

I think he brought it home from the fish store

I cant seem to get any definite advice from anywhere.
