Re: Goldfish help #1
Can you provide some more details of your tank?

Aren't Mussels salt water creatures?

The gasping sounds to me like a lack of oxygen in the water.

Re: Keeping fish tank cool #2
Increase water changes with cooler water - make sure you dechlorinate.

Rig up a fan to blow over the water - this cools the water and also promotes surface movement and increases oxygen in the water.

Reduce lighting - unless your using LEDs lights give off a hell of a lot of heat.

Freeze some tank water and put it in a breeding net or something so the fish cant try to eat it.

Re: Video update of my ranchu and oranda #3
Beautiful fish!! The Oranda has grown massively though I think Fishler is the wrong name. The way he clears the food you should really call him Dyson!!

Not sure about sex though.

Re: beloved fancy upside down #4
Sounds to me like possibly Swim Bladder? Pretty sure FL will be along and can confirm or suggest other ideas.

Whats are your tank details and can you post your water readings please?

If its swim bladder I think the best idea it the blanched deshelled peas are supposed to help.

Hope she pulls through.

Re: Please help , what's wrong with my fish? #5
The only thing that will reduce nitrates is changing the water. Make sure before you put the fresh water in you De chlorinate it other wise the Chlorine will kill the good bacteria thats living in your filter and tank.

Re: Which fish should I use on my tank? #6
Im with FL on this.

I have found strips to be highly UNreliable and the majority of false readings with drop kits are either kits are out of date, too many drops or misreading by the user.

Mighty Morphin' Amano Shrimp #7
I have 7 Amano Shrimp in my tank, 6 of them are the standard grey colour with dark sadles. 1 of them for some unknown reason to me has changed colour and has turned a really darkish brown all over.

Hes still quite active and adventurous for a Shrimp but I don't understand why he has changed colour.

Any ideas?

Re: newbie help #8
There is a Maidenhead Aquatics not too far from you. The bit on Stockton where all the car garages are near Preston Park, there is a big Garden Centre with a Maidenhead Aquatics there. if and when you want some media drop me a PM and we can arrange to meet there. Bring a bucket so I can puour water and media in and Ill take your new media and put it in my filter.

Plastic herons also bring real herons in when it's breeding season

Low netting is safer but I know, unsightly. It's a bit of a b**ger isn't it?

What if you get a plastic heron and then deface it so its ugly? think that would work???

Sounds like netting is the only option

Re: Herons #10
Cant you get one of those plastic herons that sticks in the ground next to the pond to deter other herons from coming into its territory?
