Re: New tank #1
i think they can smile!!!

the orb was given to me as a gift from my dad. i dont know what he will say when he realises its gone but i dont care!! i have been dropping hints for a long time that it isn't suitable for fish so he would be a little prepared!! i think i will set it up in the kitchen with a few plants and he will probably not even notice there are no fish in it!!! a friend of mine has 4 fish in a 15 litre one and i feel sick everytime i visit her! i have tried to gently tell her how cruel it is but i think it fall on deaf ears!! there are some awful tanks out there! my son wants one for his room. so i agreed to get him one for his birthday, he will be 10 and is quite the fanatic!! and i am so glad he is not sucked in by the cartoon tanks they have out there. he knows they are not suitable and is not even interested. we were in the lfs last week and he was looking at the fluval chi (i think its called) tiny!! he was not quiet in pointing out that the box was advertising 7 or 8 fish in it and he was quite annoyed. he is doing his research and has till sept to choose what set up he would like. (any excuse for more tanks hee hee)

New tank #3
Hi everyone,

I would just like to announce that I no longer have fish in my biorb!!!! I bought a 60litre tank for Arnold (black moor) (unfortunately we lost Woody)! I know 60 is still not big enough but at the moment it is all i can afford!! He will be in there for the next few months while I save up for at least 250litres!! Anyway Arnold seems absolutely delighted with his new tank!! I didnt need to cycle it as i had two filters running in another tank for a couple of months so i popped that one in the the new tank!!! I was so worried we lose Arnold as he was looking very depressed in the orb.....not swimming about at all. Now he is back to his old self again and when I am able to upgrade again i will get him a couple of friends!!!

Just wanted to let you all know!!!

Re: Snail prevention #4
hi
i had pest snails in an old tank that i had. when i set up my new tank i didn't want the same problem. i bought an assasin snail. as yet no other snails, however it is only a fairly new set up.

good luck

Re: ammonia through the roof!! #5
i have had the guppys now for a couple of weeks. thier tails were one coulour when i forst got them....either pin or yellow. then as the days went on they had began getting liitle black dots on them. i went to anther pet shop and the guppies they had there all had black patterns on their tails, and someone told me that happens as they mature. they seem to be forming a pattern as the spots look like they are following the shape of the tail. there is no sign of fin rot or ragged fins at all. i have tried to upload photos so many times without success.

thank you denise

Re: black moor water temp??? #6
i have tried local paper etc but nothing so far. not tried freecycle tho. right now i am hunting the internet for new ones. found an aqua one evo 260 litre and cabinet for ?400! got some extra pennies coming to me in the new year so that will come in handy. i cant wait to see them swimming around in lots of water with plenty of space. if i get one that size, maybe they could have another wee friend to join them!! i will keep looking!! maybe i will sell the tv!!! ha ha!! dont think i would be too popular tho! ha ha

Re: black moor water temp??? #7
ok i will turn the heater down to 18 then. i have the water level about 6 inches from the top anyway due to lack of surface space. i am really feeling sorry for them in there. after xmas they wil definately have a new home. i have been on ebay and obviously all the tanks are "pick up only" and the closest i have seen to me is over 100 miles away. and i dont drive. i didnt think you could have a black moor and a siamese fighter together due to the water temp. there is a lot of misleading info out there!!

thank you for your reply

black moor water temp??? #8
hi guys,

i have a black moor and fancy in a 30l biorb (please dont shout at me....looking to get a new huge tank for them very soon!!). i put a small heater into the tank as due to the very cold weather we have had the water temp went down to about 11 degrees and the boys seemed to be sitting still almost like they were saving energy. before i put heater in i did water test....ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 10 so i rulled out bad water conditions for their lethergy. so i put in the heater and the temp is now at 20 degrees. boys much happier and behaving as normal. i was just wonderin what is the highest temperature a black moor is happy with. i was doing a bit of online research and one site said that they dont go well with siamese fighters due to long fins, but i thought that they wouldnt make good tank mates due to the water temp. anyway that made me wonder how warm black moors like their water. i know that goldfish prefer temps between 18 and 22. anyway i am waffling on now. not an urgent question........pure curiosity!!!

thanks

denise

Re: ammonia through the roof!! #9
i will test some water left for 24 hours and see what it reads. i'm glad i will have a lot to choose from with the water being so soft. i will see if the pet shop will take back the guppys. been doing 25% water changes daily at the moment.

thsnks again violet
