I posted here a little bit a while ago, until my second little fish passed away.
Loved them a great deal, so decided to get a picture of them done for my wall, and settled on a pencil drawing from an artist I found on Deviantart. Sent some pictures for him to work from, and just received the physical copy. Here's a photo of the work on the artist's page.
It's a little bit larger than A4 size, 9" x 12". Extremely close to life - those two are very much my two little fish, with their own unique appearance.
I'm not the sort to wander around making recommendations usually, but I love it so much this is an exception. Thought some fellow fish-lovers might like what they see and send some work his way - he doesn't just do fish though. Prices and services info is here:
Beautiful little thing passed away at 4am this morning. Of all the places he could have gone from the pet shop, he couldn't have been more loved, cherished and cared for than he was here. I'm confident he had a wonderful life and enjoyed living with us as much as we enjoyed living with him.
Thank you for the help and support, it's meant a lot to have a place to turn to whenever problems have arisen. And I've learnt a lot, which I'll take with me and pass on to others as needed.
Perhaps I'll return to keeping fish one day, but for now I'll retire. Thanks again, and may all your fish grow fat, beautiful and healthy.
He seems a little worse today. Seems to have totally lost his balance and keeps falling over onto his left side. Righted him a few times but he keeps going back over. He has a little waggle of his body and tail every now and then but doesn't go anywhere.
Breathing seems a little laboured too, but might just be imagining that
Update - very little to say. He's found himself on his side a few times in the last 24 hours, unsure if it's just misfortune or if it means something.
Still no swimming, and eats only what I touch to his mouth.
But spending so long knelt/sat with him talking (I'm sure he understands) helped me to notice two very small snails in there. As far as I can tell they're a type of Ramshorn Snail and harmless to fish. Thing is, I last put in plants over two months ago, so not sure how they got here (unless they grow really, really slowly)...
Hasn't moved more than a few inches since 7am, just parked on the gravel watching the world go by. Still pineconed but except for that he looks normal externally.
Hopefully he'll keep eating - I have to pretty much push it into his mouth to get him to have it (fortunately I can reach down through the water to where he is) but suppose as long as he's having something he'll be able to keep his strength up.
Managed to hand-feed him a few bloodworms last night, but he still won't budge an inch to try to pick them up out of the water or from the gravel very unlike him.
The only swimming he's doing is pretty much dragging himself along the bottom, with occasional 2-3 second attempts to swim upwards. In the last four hours he's covered about 2 feet along the bottom.
Did him a 40% water change (he has one every Monday, so thought I should stick to that) and re-dosed with Esha, so hopefully he'll start perking up a little and find a way to overcome whatever is ailing him.
No change, except that I'm more certain now that he has some degree of 'dropsy-like' pineconing on his body. So that's become more pronounced. Never a good sign
He ate a few little bits of lettuce yesterday when I held it infront of his face and he just moved his mouth to eat it (when healthy he always has his first mouthful of lettuce from my hand, he's become very particular about doing it that way) but he wouldn't even move a centimetre to pick any up off the gravel.
But that tiny bit aside (really was a tiny amount) he hasn't eaten since Monday morning, so almost a week.
Fairly sure it's not constipation, as he was pooing as normal after feeding on Monday - that was the last time he ate anything, and normally when he's blocked up he floats but is otherwise perfectly well. This time he's at the bottom and is awfully lethargic.
Condition update: no change. Still won't eat, and is behaving exactly the same way :(
