New Goldfish sometimes sitting at bottom of tank
Hello. I’ve not been on this forum for quite a few years as had my last goldfish for 9 years. Nearly four weeks ago I purchased a small goldfish (only fish in the tank). Three weeks after we got him I found him at the bottom of the tank (also swimming sometimes) so I did a 50% water change and have fed pea for the last few days. Only four days later, he is at the bottom again (and swimming). Do I don another water change? If so, do I siphon the tank again or can I just get some water out and put new in? Also is it ok to feed a small fish flakes? I am give 2 or 3 tiny flakes (or pea). Sometime I worry i am not giving enough and sometimes I worry it is too much!
Hi Violet. Apologies for not answering your questions on your last post. Yes I do use dechlorinater and make water changes every two weeks. I will look into the storage box ideas. Thanks for your welcoming words Jellybean.
Many thanks for replying Violet and Jellybean. I do only have one fish in the tank, but wondered if I could add another if anything happened to this one. However, I have taken on board the advice about the size of the tank. The fish doesn't have any obvious symptoms, just sitting at the bottom of the tank.
Hi. Many thanks for your reply. The tank size is 19 ltrs. I am sorry, but I cannot remember the name of the filter, but it is not an under gravel one. The tank has been set up for 6 years. I changed the water yesterday - about half of the tank. There is one goldfish in the tank, who is about 3 years old (who has been sitting at the bottom of the tank for 2 days) . No plants or ornaments added in ages. Medications added are the Interpret Disease Safe and some salt (salt added yesterday after the water change). I have not done any water readings yet. Any help would be much appreciated.
