New tank, I'm am new to marines but just upgraded #3
Hi there, Not long got my 90 liter nano and got a what I thought was a good offer on a larger tank.

Its a juwel rio 240 with cabnet and a V2 skim 400, protein skimer. Got that for ?200

Then added Sand and 11kg of live rock (more to follow) heater and using the built in power head to break the surface of the water and a Eheim classic 2217 (600 liters an hr) with added live rock as an extrenal filter.

Will be adding at least 2 powerheads to add movment in the water.

what do you guys/girls think is this a good setup?

Thanks

Re: Algae blooms, help please #4
I have a surface skimmer,
As im sure you know, its nothing like a normal skimmer but its ment to do a similar job.

I did do a 10% water change today as when I run my tests this moring I thought they were a bit high.

Re: Algae blooms, help please #5
I thought that myself, because it is a new setup I have spent a lot of time just looking at it.

The lights have been on for about 12 hrs a day but starting now I'm gonna cut this down to no more than 6hr.

I thought 3 hrs this morning then another 3hrs at night.

Do you think a little water change will help??

They just dont seem to do it quick enough.

It wont hurt my feather duster or my little bits of Xenia coral?

Re: Algae blooms, help please #7
Hi there Howard,

I have not tested today yet, I was gonna let the water settle after cleaning the rocks and glass today.

Yesterday they were

pH 8.0
KH 12
Nitrate 2ppm
Nitrite 0.02ppm
Ammomia 0.2ppm
SG 24

Is it ok the keep cleaning it off?
I dont wanna damage anything that light be trying to grow on my rock.

Re: Algae blooms, help please #8
As long as it dont do any harm I dont mind, for a while anyway.

I have just cleaned the glass and removed more from my rock with a toothbrush.

Just wait and see if anyone knows of a way to reduce it, maybe I will just have to put up with it.

Algae blooms, help please #9
Yes sorry its me again.

Had my tank running for 7 days now, about 2 or 3 days ago it all started going green.

I then went to my lfs and he told me to get some snails and some super tiny hermit crabs.
I now have been told I should not have got them.

I have cleaned the rock yesterday with a toothbrush, but all this green is coming back already.
One bit of my rock as got some coral growing on it so I didnt touch that bit, it also has a baby feather duster in it so dont wanna disturb him.

Any help would be very much appreciated
