Re: Going to get a Marine Tank #771
yeah i see what your saying about the theory with waste but its only used for space if there too cramped then they will end up become ncomfortable/stressed and or aggressive and kill till its no longer a problem. as for the tangs and the angel yeah sorry i only really got intrested enough to buy a tank a few weeks ago and got confused. it is well over 6 months old and stuff from the beggining is still there.

as anenomes if any one can tell me if these would poison or sting me (as these are the ones i would like to get then it would really really help)

latin-heteractis magnifica
english-ritteri anemone
a purple anemone with white tips
http://fins.actwin.com/species/index.php?t=9&i=296

heteractis malu
delicate sea anemone,long tenticled anemone
various colours cheack link for pics
http://fins.actwin.com/species/index.php?t=9&i=371

Stichodactyla gigantea
white carpet anemone
pretty much the name see pics
http://fins.actwin.com/species/index.php?t=9&i=305

if you could tell me the how available these are aswell at work ive seen the heteractis malu anemone but only once.

also i thought everyone who likes any fish shoulld cheack this website and favorite this one its very useful although they recieve pictures from people and sometimes dont add a description.

http://fins.actwin.com/index.php

thanks for all the help so far also any page with a description on boxing shrimps also noted as banded shrimps that would help aswell.

one last thing how quickly/long will it take for a juvinile emperor angel to start getting the adult colours and how long will it take to change completly.

thanks

Re: Going to get a Marine Tank #772
I do have a good deal of experience working at a shop with the fish although ive never actually owned marines.

I will proberbly take the yellow tang to the shop and let someone else buy it as if i can only have 1 without ights i would prefer a powder tang or a regal. also would stoke up with mini hermits to help clean and a few scooters.

I do know that a i need about 18 litres per 1.5 cm of ish with corals and will probarbly stay away from small fish such as dominos and humbugs.

Re: Going to get a Marine Tank #774
The emperor tang is a dwarf (the shop keeper said)and will only grow to half it usual size (how they can tell its a dwarf is another question though) they also had a dwarf frog fish going for £50.

the tank is actually taller than 1 quoted its a whole 2 feet (been shopping around and got confused) and does have uv lights as well as the ultra whites and ultra blue.

the anenome is a peachy brown colour which are slightly lighter at the tips.

and any links to sights explaining corals properly would be appreciated.

Thanks

Going to get a Marine Tank #776
Hello everybody.

Im buying an old marine setup from somebody it has lots of live rock (40kg) its 4ft long by 18 inches tall and 15 inches deep. it also has a nice selection of fish a goby a clown with an anenome yellow tang chromis and something called a boxer shrimp (i this a manta shrimp?) its got twin T5 white and a T8 actinic blue. it also has some mushroom polyps.

ill buy some small little hermit crabs and a few more tangs but what i want to know is about corals.

What corals/fungus/anenomes can sting. and what are nice ones.

also with anenomes. i know the can sting and paralyze fish but can they effect me.

also can you give me a rough price for an emperor tang, morish idol and a painted frogfish. obviouslly seprate not together.

also the boxer shrimps are they manta shrimps. my uncle accidentlly got one and i sure as hell no that i dont want one after what i did.

thanks for looking

Re: Hi im new to the forum. #778
i thought it would be to small and i didnt want to move the turtles to a smaller tank really.

i bought the 18 gallon for them and got the smaller tank for the filters as it had 2 and a heater for £50 its not that bad.

im doing work experience at aquatic wearhouse at cole green in hertfordshire so i might get a part time job and get a larger tank.

they had some large tanks about twice the hight and twice the depth/width they might even be slightly longer for £100 i reckon it was at least 35 gallons maybe 50.

in that case i might use the smaller tank as a hospital as the mbuna malawis are apperentlly very territorial as they claim caverns/caves to be there own instead of space.
