So sorry to hear about your fish :/
If your thinking about starting again then moving a tank from north to south London isnt as hard as it sounds. I got my tank from N22 to Croydon all on public transport, took about 2-3 hours one evening after work.
Im quite petite and can barely lift a 3' tank so I put together this trolly
All you need is:
1 electric drill+assorted bits 1 screwdriver
1 wooden frame (used to be part of my ikea wardrobe) 2 large fixed trolly wheels 1 piece of salvaged plywood 11 screws
I don't think I could manage anything over 4' using this method (without a longer trolly and more helpers!) but as long as you can rope someone in to help you on and off the train/bus/up and down stairs, the rest is fine. You will get a lot of funny looks though.
This might be a stupid question but how do you know a good heater from a bad one? Im assuming I need a 100w heater but they seem to vary massively in price despite looking the same to my untrained eye.
BTW I splashed out on a fluval 3+ filter :D. Hopefully I should get my tank all set up tomorrow, so excited!
Re: Hard Water Fish - suited to tropical set up
My local fish shop says my hard alkaline water is typical of my area but the only suitable fish they have are cichlids. They suggest using water sofeners and ph balancers if I want a smaller type of fish.
Am I being fed total rubbish? If so can anyone recommend a good fish shop in central London? Assuming a 30 min tube ride is acceptable for fish transport?
Hmm thats a lot of questions in one paragraph, sorry : /
Oh btw I havnt got a tank yet, I want to make sure I know what fish are suitable/available before I make the big purchase :D
I have never owned a fish before so I was thinking about getting a small tropical tank (approx 35ltr). I have read enough of the forum to realise how woefully little I know about keeping fish. Any advice on where to go and what to buy would be appreciated :)
