Re: anneome feeding problems help! #52
you could always wash out a coke bottle cut the end off and position it over its mouth long ennough so the shrimp cant get at it, or try feed the shrimp 1st so its preoccupied!

Re: Short cut to cycle tank? #53
i think its all relative, my tangs got on fine no squabbles or anything but they all look totally difrent to each other the thing to remember is they get big and poo loads so having loads of tangs is rubbish if you want to keep a sucsessful reef as it'l be a constant battle with nitAtes, i have nitrAtes of between 5 and 10 as i went through a stage of over feeding(autofeeder went mad and dumped all the food in!) and its been a battle to get them down as i used to have nitrates of zero but thats the thing if you have a nano with high readings a big water change is easy with a 600l system its not we changed 100l a week for 4 weeks but its not the same as say changing 50% in one go.

Re: Short cut to cycle tank? #55
the rock must have been out of water at some point? where was it stored? locally ie less than 15 mins out of water? i doubt i could have managed it i have 100kg of LR in my tank and it took me the best part of 3 hours to get it in my tank how i wanted it so even if you have half as much as me the rock would have been out of the water long ennough for some die off.JMO

Re: Short cut to cycle tank? #56
dont think you see what howards saying your cuc and corals arn't gonna produce waste or at least not with any significance, the problem with cycling with animals in is the enviroment your subjecting them to, maybe your rock hasnt had any die off yet and maybe it wont but if it does you'l get an ammonia spike amongst other things which your animals have to live through, I for one wouldnt want to live in a toxic enviroment JMO one other point worth remembering when you have a descent size tank is although its easier to keep stable its a nightmare when things go wrong especially with water conditions as 500+ litres of water and god knows how much rock to move is a major job. My tanks roughly the same size as yours so i know what you'l be up against if it starts to go wrong, HTH
