Re: New to fishkeeping.. uncycled tank.. #31
Also to add.. i'm thinking of changing from tapsafe to seachem prime to treat the water when changing. Would this help Or would it play havoc with my readings? So hard knowing what the best course of action is for the fish while we get through the cycling process...

Re: New to fishkeeping.. uncycled tank.. #33
Thank you! Ammonia was in between 0.25 & 0.50 today.. shockingly high considering I did a water change yesterday but I did also feed them 4 pellets each yesterday. So just finished a 50% water change and ammonia has dropped between 0 & 0.25. No feeding today. The link was super informative. From it it seems that daily water changes are good while the tank cycles. Ive read that too many water changes can stall the cycling, is this true? Although the fish need the ammonia taken out so I may do daily instead of every 2 days... what do you think? Thanks again!

Re: New to fishkeeping.. uncycled tank.. #34
Thanks for the reply! All I can say is.. for goodness sakes! Within a few days of having them in the tiny tank went to a proper fish aquarium shop who advised that the 120L would be big enough for them FOR LIFE. I suspected it wouldn't be but my husband has already been put through quite a bit with my pure obsessing so settled for the 120. The fish are currently around 2in each.. 1 moor 2 orandas and a spotty fancy. So my next question. What is the growth rate of the fancy goldfish? Thanks for the link will check it out..

New to fishkeeping.. uncycled tank.. #35
Hi Guys.. I'm new to the site and new to fish keeping. Accidentally fell into fishkeeping 2 weeks ago and have fallen head over heels in love with my 4 fancy Goldies. Quick back ground.. We decided to get our daughter some gold fish and stupidly took advice from pets at home. Bought a 27L tank and 4 beautiful fish. No mention of needing to cycle, just run the tank for 3 days then all good. Also the 27L tank would last them for 6 months. Big mistake. Now they are in a 120L litre tank.. but I'm so worried about the fact its not cycled. Water changing 40l every 2 days ammonia 0.25, nitrite 0, nitrate 0.20 as its in our water supply after testing. Feeding sparingly.. poor babies. How long will it take for the cycle to even start? And am I doing the right thing changing the water every 2 days?
Any advice to get my fish through this is really appreciated!
Cheers!
