Re: Seachem Clarity #31
Id look to the root cause of this rather than try and sort it out chemically. Haze is caused by a few things:

1. Not rinsing substrate before putting it in the tank
2. Bacterial Bloom (meaning your Nitrate system has broken down / not established)
3. Algae Bloom - probably same reason as above.

Can you test your water for Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite and post the results in here?

How long has your tank been setup?

Does the brown stuff look like slime?

Try running another filter in your tank that just has filter wool in it - that will trap particles of all size and tended to clear my tank of substrate related particles within half a day, if it doesnt then I think you have some other kind of issue!

Re: DIY Bubble stop #32
Are the bubbles you are getting a result of your syphon stop hole? If so you can get away with covering it lightly (i tied a piece of string round mine) to stop the air infiltrating on normal use. You need to make sure though that its not tied so tight that it cant take in air if the power goes out, id recommend testing it a few times.

Re: Hey :) #33
Lanzarote? Alright for some I guess - I need a holiday.

New company is going (officially) live in April, have been developing it for the past year. Basically a Web Development / SEO / Graphic Design / Consulting company.

Should be a nice little money earner :)

Hi @ Jewi :)

Re: Fishless Cycling - Phase one - Still No Nitrites #34
No aroma? Ammonia has a pretty rank smell (fairly distinguishable), are you sure there is any in there ? ;)

I used raw prawns and Ammonia for mine - wouldnt recommend it though if its indoors!

Re: Fishless Cycling - Phase one - Still No Nitrites #35
I know - been a busy boy :)

When I fishless cycled mine I bought some powdered bacteria stuff which seemed to kick start it.

What ammonia are you using?

Re: Fishless Cycling - Phase one - Still No Nitrites #37
Really silly question but do you have a filter running?

Re: Mis-sold anemone on ebay - you decide? #38
They are 100% beadlet anemone's, beadlet anemones are the only ones to have bright blue achoragi and they also fold into their characteristic jelly blob when removed from the water.

I wont give the seller the benefit of the doubt because he is blatently sourcing Anemones and Snails from UK beaches - most of which will probably die when introduced into a domestic tank - people need to take responsibility for their actions.

Mis-sold anemone on ebay - you decide? #39
Hi all :)

I bought an anemone on ebay the other day which has now turned out to be a beadlet anemone (albeit a rather nice speciment of one) - do you think his description is accurate?

Re: Filtration Argument (again) #40
Good call - I have loads of ceramic media in the filter that it has come with, Im getting some more live rock as need to seed my new tank.

Its looking really good so far - have 5 chromis and my 2 clowns plus a few inverts.

I also have a ton of chaetomorpha that should munch up any remaining nitrates
