Re: MOVING HOUSE/ MOVING POND #262714
Update on moving house

Well fellow fishkeppers have moved house now
Found an Aquatic shop about 2 miles from my new house
called NORFOK KOI web site is www.norfolkoi.co.uk
he came down on the day of the move caught all the fish boxed them and added oxygen as well, also took some of the garden ornaments that we could not get in the lorry.
Brought the fish to norfolk and we rang him when we were ready for him to come around and put the fish in a holding tank that he rented to us ( for £10 a week which i didn't think was to bad ? ) and since then he has been a great help. I have since constructed the pond and he even came around and help me put the liner in and has dropped items around to me when i've been stuck. Just filled the pond up today and will let it mature and build up the bacteria for a week or so and then move the fish to the new pond.
He also advised me to go with a bottom drain filter system and is building the filter box for me.
While I don't like advertising companies on this site I have to say that norfolk koi could not have been more helpful.
Thanks for all your previous help fellow fishkeepers.

Re: Harmless Fly? What is it?! #262716
Definitely a small Chironomid midge of some kind. These are totally harmless and, as everyone else thinks, great food for your fish . Most fish in the wild will eat the larvae of these flies as the main part of their diet. Fly-fishermen in England use imitations of the larvae and sometimes the flies to catch trout on reservoirs to great effect. They could get in your tank in any number of ways from eggs attached to plants to simply flying in.

Re: Goldy's holiday! #262720
Luckily yes Cheeky our house insurance covers us although we do have to pay the first £50.00 It is sad because the site itself was lovely with beautiful views and the entertainment was good too etc, although the pool toilet's left a lot to be desired The apartment was nice "decor wise" moden and a good size with 2 bedrooms but the cleaners don't clean them properly, it was so dusty everywhere even inside the wardrobes I had to wipe the shelves before putting any clothes on them, and things like the cooker and grill pan had dried in grease/fat or what ever? "yuk" plus the electric kettle had dried up grease on the bottom ? and the lid was mucky/dusty that wouldn't just wipe off if you know what I mean, so I bought some bleach and cleaned around myself before I would use anything in the kitchen like the work tops and kettle, although I still wouldn't use the oven and grill only the hob, I also stuck some bleach down the toilet and it was fine then, I couldn't hoover it though as it didn't have a hoover and I went on holiday hoping not to do any housework/cleaning up
