Re: Newbie tank question I'm afraid #2222
Hi Everyone,

The builders are booked for next Friday!!! The re-arrangement of the kitchen has allowed me to go for a 180 litre tank. Can anybody recommend an appropriate external filter and air pump? Would running my current internal filter in the tank as well help establish the nitrate cycle.

I want to get them out of the little tank asap!!

Cheers
JON

Right, might have to re think the placing of the tank then. I've become ever so fond of them, they are real charecters and I want to give them the best environment I can. I thought he might be a Ranchau, but he doesn't have any sort of head crest or anything.

Thanks
JON

Newbie tank question i'm afraid #2224
Hi All,

In February I bought came accross a very small fish tank (10 litres)and being stupid assumed that it would be nice to get a couple of very small fish!!

Anyway I picked up 3 tiny fish (which I now realise must have been virtually infants)

1. Moor (Donald)
2. Red Cap Fantail (Mary)
3. Type unknown Red Fancy Goldfish with very round body, short fins and no dorsal fin (PingPong)

All three seem fit and well, they are fed Tetra Gold Japan sinking pellets, crushed peas, occasional frozen blood worms and sometimes tried out on other fruit and veg. I have a small internal filter and give them a 70% water change about every 10 days.

After doing a little research I realise that I urgently require a proper tank for their welfare. Unfortunatly I have a few questions which I'm sure will sound ridiculous to the experienced...

a) I only have space for a tank of about 75cm in length and doing some calculations reckon I will be able to get 54 - 60 litres of water volume. Will this be acceptable to give them a quality environment? I can increase height but not length.

b) They seem to enjoy swimming through and nibbling the aeriating weed I'm thinking of giving them a little forest of 5 or 6 plants to hide in would they enjoy this?

c) The new tank will go on a work surface, should I get an internal or external filter?

d) A the moment I have one air stone, are these a good idea or do they disrupt stress the fish?

Lastly

I would like any ornament in the tank to be natural what should I use to avoid poluting the water?

Cheers, sorry for the lengthof this post!

JON
