I have been having a little trouble with my phosphate reactor and pump. The phos remover only seems to dance or move at all when I shake it. Then after awhile it stops moving again. Water is going through the reactor but it doesn?t seem to be moving though it fast enough. The pump i bought is a maxijet rated at 500plh which i believe should be powerful enough. i shut it down and clean the whole lot about every 3 weeks. Also phosphates are starting to creep up which would suggest its not running efficiently. Can anyone suggest a way of making it work better? Perhaps up rating the pump?
first problem for awhile im afraid new it was going two well. my problem is i got home from work and checked out my tank and noticed one of my leather corals had some damaged flesh at its base. even though it was still out i decided to take it out and have a look. lifted it up and there was some real deep damage. so i got my sharp blade and carefully cut the dieing tissue off. to my horror theres was a load more dead underneath that had gone like sand almost. well after removing all this dead tissue there a gapping hole in my coral which ive just cleaned up. my question is should i take cuttings off it now or is there any chance it will survive? im quite upset as it is my favourite leather.
You got a pic? There are a number of nuisance crabs that come in live rock is it causing any damage to corals other life in your tank or just the rocks? Try keeping the bottle in the tank for a period of time and keep baiting it. the crab is unlikely to approach anything unfamiliar. Perhaps Reduce normal feeding aswell to temp the crab into the bottle as there will be less food elsewhere.
im afraid this happens alot. a number of peeps on this site are activly caimpaining for ill treatment of fish to be at least recorgnised as cruel. but there is a cultural mindset that it doesnt matter how you treat fish because there only fish. it will take a long time for this to change. but i believe it will eventauly.
