have decided to get a double starter unit and screw in the clips to hold the bulbs into the original light unit and just use the new starter unit to light the bulbs. before i got this tank i used a starter unit thingy for years with no problems. fed up with juwel. i will take great delight in making holes in the old unit.
obviously it will never be plugged in again btw in case anyone thought otherwise lol
its t8 bulbs. had a look on the net and arcadia sellssomething called the I bar which is basically a replacement for the crappy juwel thing, althought they dont actually say that of course. they just hint... still quite dear though i can only find them in t5 although the arcadia web site says they make them in t8 too. i just cant find them. i dont want to upgrade to t5 as the bulbs are a bit dear and i cant get them round here.
im going away for a little cry.
ps the lights always came straight on - and they were on when they blinked off if you know what i mean
bulbs went last night so i thought they just wanted replaced. went and got new ones today, unit still not working. cant see a trip or a starter on the light unit at all - seems to be fully sealed. does anyone know how to fix them? i cant afford nearly £100 for a new unit!
i got little red horrors in my tank not so long ago and i discovered that a fairly high (similar to treatment for whitespot) concentration of aquarium (and table) salt kills them fairly quickly. dont know how much use that will be but i do know that for the ones i had, anti - crustation is useless. doesnt kill them unless your experimenting in the kitchen to see what kills them... lol anyways i found that salt of any kind kills the red ones, and nat geo on the telly says that salt kills the big black horrors they were looking at. dont know about salt v turtles though so info could be useless.
