i would need both my hands to cup my fancy fish that's how big they are and i know they will get bigger yet!!

as i said in one of your other many posts if your so set on having a tank in the office why not got for a small "ready made one" with heater, filter light etc?? that way you could have a few nice tropical fish if you wanted

why are you here for advice if you don't want to use it??

Re: Spots on my shabumkins tail #23
hmmm i really would recommend that he be put back in a coldwater tank along with the other goldfish - they really don't do very well in long heat periods As i say blood streaked fins are a clear cut sign of stress

if you can i would transfer them over - use half the water from the tropical tank and top them both up with fresh dechlorinated water and if you can use some filter media from the tropical tank to use to help with the beneficial bacteria

if i've completely confused you just let me know do you know about cycling and ammonia, nitrite and nitrate etc??

i wont ask you to name and shame the other forum

Re: 2 gal #24
can i ask why you want to use this 2 gal tank?

fair enough if you want to have a tank at work, i've actually been thinking i would like to do the same but there are some lovely small sets about which have a filter, heater light etc. all of which make the fish happier and you could have a nice selection of fish

surely wouldn't something like that be better??

Re: Spots on my shabumkins tail #25
hi dawn welcome to the forum

can i first asked who said you could put him in a tropical tank??

split/red streaked fins are a sign of stress - shubs should only be in a coldwater tank around 18-22c

what temp do you have in your tropical tank?? my first guess would be the extra heat is stressing him out - have you still got the coldwater tank on the go??

what tropical fish do you have in with him??

Re: Question about setting up a goldfish tank at daughters nursery #26
as long as the tank is big enough so you don't have water problems then think it would be nice for kids to see how to look after fish properly

just make sure you cycle and check the water frequently, clean the filter in old tank water and you should be fine - nothing worse having a tank in a nursery/school and have dead fishies in it for the children to see

carbon is ok for removing meds and the such but not sure i would use it all the time, and you will need to use a dechlorinater each time you do a water change as it helps get rid of all the heavy metals and chloramine etc in tap water as well

Re: Shubi with red patch/growth on mouth #27
hmmmm would have thought it would have got working by now

perhaps best to try plan b - you'll need to clear out the esha first - so do a couple of water changes and add some carbon to the filter if you can to get rid of it then we can see about trying something else not giving up yet!

how is he doing in himself? still eating swimming about? how is the water quality after all the esha?

Re: Won a huge cage on ebay (never!) now what to put in it? #29
well i think he looks lovely - really posing for the picture

yeah they're my babies, though it would be nice to finally put a picture of them all up in my signature bit

on the left is the oranda and ranchu on the right is the black moor and veiltail - the black moor has kept her colour which is nice
