Re: Sunday Times- Goldfish have feelings too #1883
i am a keen fisherman and do understand that fish do indeed feal pain i go to great lengths to minimise this by using such practices as using barbles hooks and unhooking in the worter i dont se the need in houlking a 18plus pound carp out of the woter just to get a picture
but the same can be sed for other sports using a crop in hors raicing shooting fox hunting thank god thats gone the list gose on

i just dont like the bad pres some anglers get by others bad practice the same can be sed for people ho keep fish in bad secumstances and have no intention of caring for them as if they wher a throw away comodaty that have the opinion of it only cost a couple of quid so ill get another one this has coused so much misunderstanding the famous being golfish can be cept in bowls and wont grow big in a small tank

sorry for the rant just mu 2 sence no offence intended to others

Re: convict vs texas ciclid ? help #1885
i have been into the shop wer the texas came from and to be onest i felt like deking the maneger a soon as i enterd the place whas filthy all the tanks wher runing of a central sytem using a large sump that looked like it hadent been maintained in monthes needles to say he asked for a recete and ponted me towords a siyne near the dor speling out the fact that they offer no refund or rehomeing of live products as they called it once they leave the premeces

they shall be receving a visit from awer local rcpca office soon as my brother is a worden ther so i think i get the last laff on that shop

ill not name the shop but is well known for its bad reputation in hull

o and took a few snapes of that little devil texes ciclid so cute for a monster attitude

Re: convict vs texas ciclid ? help #1886
hi i understand and agree with what you say totaly the problem i have is i rescued the fish from a frend ho had never kept ciclids this is the texes he had it in a fish bowl one of thos biorb things and no heter i had to take it. coused a big argument but i convinced him it wasent the way to go as he wouldent spend eny more mony on it.

aperantly he payed 30pounds for it and whas told it woild change colors depending on its enviroment an decor and wouldent get eny bigger

the other problem i have is that my lfs wont take it of my hands as they dont do agresive fish

what would be the dimensions of a sutable tank sise to keep the texas in as i can redaly bulde a tank of eny sise realy as i have acses to meny bulding suplyes and work making and welding aloy frame windows so can get the glas and have made several tanks just not majorly huge ones as of yet

am i looking at more florspace agenst hiyt or other way round any info would be good i am trying my upmost to keep the texes and give it the home it deserves

Re: convict vs texas ciclid ? help #1888
Ime as suprised as eny that the convicts arnt standing up to the texes the strange thing is the femail isent getting botherd at all. She swims past the texas and he dousent react at all i have just moved the texes to a smmaler tank as he has ataked the mail convict since posting the ferst mesege and left his fins in tatters.

I cant keep it in this tank as it is only a small tank i keep for my baby convicts and realy isent sutable but needs must the convicts arnt curently ceeping fry as they havent bred in about 3 weeks from moturing ther last brood
i just think the male convict is a complete wuss as he is a good therd bigger then the texes he just cawers wenever the texes comes enywher near.

ther are pleny of hiding places and i have even removed line of siyt by using ornemants and plants to devide the tank but the texes seems determind to attack the male convict and dousent even bother the femail even tho she is much smaller.

Hi all i curantly have a 125 litre ciclid tank containing a breeding per of convicts. the male is about 7 ich and the femal about 4 1/2. I also have a texas ciclid about 5 inch wich brings me to my problem.

U wuld think the convicts would be the dominent per but i find the femail convict getting along fine with the texas and the big male convict cawering in a corner or running in panic every time the texas comes near him. The strang thing is i havent seen the texas actualy atack him he just seems curius he aproches the male convict gets close and the convict gose mad ducking and smashing ito everything in the tank.

is ther enything i can do a frend of mine sugested ading some smaller faster fish to take the texes ciclids atention away but ime unshure i dont want a masecre lol.

eny help please.
